Kids on Bikes
Cycling's
popularity is increasing for all ages, and ABC's Juniors program is
once again growing. If you enjoy cycling, you
qualify for the team. No need for racing experience. You
don't need any special bike - whatever you're riding today would be
fine. ABC Club members provide coaching and riding advice as well
as training approaches. (The club is fortunate to have many
experienced and retired racers.) You'd be racing against others
in your age group - for example our team raced in the 15-16 and 17-18
categories.

In
the summer of 2005 there were 5 Juniors racing for ABC. Their
racing fees and uniform costs were covered by the club, and a local
shop provided a discount on equipment. Also thanks to NJBA
for
providing a grant towards our Junior Racing Program.
NJBA will emphasize Junior racing next season, and juniors will be
assured that even more events will be available for them.
Each rider progressed from raw beginner to an experienced racer -
learning how to ride in a fast moving bunch and handle their bike in
close  quarters. The team quickly proved themselves in the racing circuit.
The
Register brothers mainly rode time trials and duathlons while Viscomi,
Battista, and Burdick competed in road races all over New
Jersey. Some of their best results were in team events.
For example, three of them competed in the 4-man Team Time Trial
and came in 3rd best in the state. Their best showing was at the
NJ Team challenge which is a team race of up to 5 riders per team with
points collected on every-other lap. Our 3-man team scored 2nd
to a full squad from the Colavita Racing Team.

B.Burdick - 5th New Jersey State Time Trial
G.Battista & B.Burdick are likely to be
upgraded to Cat 4 for 2006.
